An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education to join our vibrant, creative academic community in the School of Education. The post holder will be responsible for contributing to all aspects of teaching and curriculum development for the Primary Initial Teacher Education programmes, with a particular focus on teaching primary English.

About the Role

Working with the Head of Initial Teacher Education, Programme Directors and Programme Leaders, the post holder will contribute to the success of the School in the delivery of ITE Partnership Curriculum (Primary), enhancements to Bath Spa Teachers’ (BST) experience, student recruitment, and leadership of a selected aspect of the School’s operations. The post holder must be comfortable in working in an interdisciplinary context and have the necessary subject expertise to support trainees’ understanding of how children progress in primary English through KS1 and KS2 and how subjects connect across the curriculum. The post holder’s role as an Academic Tutor contributing to the BA Primary Education (5-11) with QTS courses will also involve supporting and assessing trainees in their academic award and professional recommendation of Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

About You

  • A good first degree in a relevant discipline and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
  • Extensive knowledge and experience of primary teaching
  • An excellent teacher with demonstrable interest in pedagogic innovation
  • Excellent interpersonal, networking, communication and IT skills
  • A secure knowledge of education policies in relation to primary education and training, including the ongoing changes to teacher education and the school system in England
  • Successful experience of teaching primary English
  • A secure understanding of ongoing support and training needs of trainee teachers and ECTs
  • Experience of working with ITE trainees or in Higher Education
  • An ambition to develop a research and publication profile
  • A good understanding of the changing HE landscape and its relevance to the Department/School/University

Additional Information

Salary Grade Ac3S/Ac3A - Starting from £26,847 rising to £33,921 per annum, pro rata £44,746 to £56,536. The salary range shows the potential maximum pay progression in addition to any annual inflationary increase to your pay. Please note that our default position is to appoint into the lower end of the range, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring service check. Candidates need to be available to work Tuesday – Thursday, but some flexibility at certain points of the year would be appreciated. Interviews will take place Online on Tuesday 4th August 2026. Immediate start preferred. This is a Part Time 0.6fte position.
