As a Casual Technical Demonstrator (Location Sound), you will support the delivery of practical teaching and student film productions across Bath Spa University’s TV & Film courses. Working with students of varying experience levels, you will provide hands-on demonstrations and technical guidance in the use of professional location sound equipment, including microphones, field mixers, audio recorders and associated accessories.
About You
The role involves assisting students in developing the skills and confidence required to capture high-quality audio for short films, documentaries and other media productions. You will support practical workshops, equipment inductions and production activities, as well as providing technical assistance on location during student filming projects. Through your expertise and guidance, you will help students apply industry-standard sound recording techniques in both controlled and real-world production environments.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Demonstrate the safe and effective use of professional location sound equipment.
- Support practical teaching sessions, workshops and equipment inductions.
- Provide technical guidance to students undertaking film and documentary productions.
- Assist students with location sound recording techniques, equipment setup and troubleshooting.
- Support student productions on location, ensuring equipment is used appropriately and effectively.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety when working with audio equipment and production activities.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive learning environment that encourages student development and confidence.
