Purpose of the Role

  • To coordinate and develop student representation and student voice activity, ensuring students are empowered to shape and enhance their academic and wider student experience.
  • To support, develop and enable Student Community Leaders, course representatives and other student leaders to act as effective advocates for their peers and communities.
  • To work closely with Sabbatical Officers to identify priorities, champion student issues and deliver meaningful student-led change.
  • To work collaboratively with Students' Union and University colleagues to ensure the student voice is heard, valued and embedded within decision-making processes.
  • To be a proactive member of the Students’ Unions Representation and Partnerships Team, delivering impactful student engagement activity and evidencing the outcomes and impact of student representation.

Student Representation & Student Voice

  • Coordinate and develop student representation activity, ensuring students have meaningful opportunities to influence their academic and wider student experience.
  • Support the recruitment, induction, training and ongoing development of Student Community Leaders, course representatives and other student representatives.
  • Ensure student representatives are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to effectively gather, communicate and act upon student feedback.
  • Work with student leaders to identify emerging themes, issues and opportunities affecting the student experience.
  • Coordinate systems and processes that capture, monitor and evidence the impact of student representation activity.
  • Produce reports, briefings and updates that demonstrate the outcomes and effectiveness of student voice initiatives.

Student Leadership & Community Development

  • Support Student Community Leaders to build inclusive, engaged and connected student communities.
  • Develop opportunities for student leaders to collaborate, share good practice and enhance their effectiveness.
  • Encourage student-led initiatives, campaigns and projects that foster belonging and positive change.
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support and coordination to student leaders and representatives.
  • Supervise and coordinate student staff, where appropriate, ensuring they are supported to deliver successful outcomes.

Sabbatical Officer Support & Partnership Working

  • Work closely with Sabbatical Officers to identify priorities, gather student insight and support the delivery of representation objectives.
  • Support Officers in engaging with students, student leaders and University stakeholders.
  • Assist in the preparation of briefings, reports and evidence to support student advocacy and decision making.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with University colleagues to strengthen partnership working and ensure student feedback is acted upon.
  • Represent the Students' Union professionally within meetings, working groups and collaborative projects as required.

Student Engagement & Insight

  • Deliver a range of student engagement activities, consultations and feedback opportunities that amplify student voice.
  • Use qualitative and quantitative feedback to identify trends, inform priorities and support evidence-based decision making.
  • Support the promotion and evaluation of representation, engagement and leadership opportunities to maximise student participation.
  • Maintain accurate records and data relating to student representation activity, ensuring compliance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of student voice and representation systems through evaluation, feedback and sector best practice.
