At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose to improve people’s lives.

About The Fashion Museum Bath: Fashion Museum Bath holds one of the world’s leading collections of fashion, spanning 400 years of human creativity, from 1600 to the present day. It is an exciting time for the Fashion Museum as we undertake a major capital project to open a new Fashion Museum (relocated from the old site). Opening in 2030, the new Museum will transform access to the Collection, with dynamic exhibitions, displays and programming.

About The Role: We are seeking to appoint a Collection Care Assistant to join the Fashion Museum team at a key moment in the Museum’s transformation. The postholder will play a vital role in supporting the Museum’s redevelopment, with a focus on collections access, care and documentation. Based primarily at the Collection Store in Warminster, the postholder will help deliver core collection activities including location auditing, object cataloguing on CMS, IPM, specialist rehousing and collections rationalisation, preparing the Collection to support the programme for the new Museum. The role also directly contributes to the Museum’s pre‑opening programme by delivering supporting collection tours, co‑working sessions and off‑site engagement activities, helping to expand and deepen public engagement with the Collection.

About You: We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised colleague, who is interested in improving collection documentation and care and sharing the collection with others through collections access. You will have:

  • Demonstrable knowledge/research/professional practice related to fashion or fashion history
  • Some demonstrable experience of working with museum objects in a museum store.
  • Some demonstrable experience of working and engaging with members of the public (Desirable)
  • Sewing skills

Location and Work Pattern: Your work will be mainly based in the Collections Store in Warminster, but will also include working on average 1 day per week in Bath, with some opportunity for home‑working.
