At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people's lives. The safeguarding and quality assurance service is looking for an experienced manager to undertake the role of Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO). The role will require you to work within a multi-agency context, using your experience of social work and safeguarding to provide advice, guidance, support and challenge to organisations that work with children when one of their employees and/or volunteers faces an allegation.
About the role:
- Manage and oversee allegations against adults who work with children (0-17) in either a paid or voluntary capacity
- Provide advice, information and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations
- Ensure statutory responsibilities are fulfilled and reported allegations are handled effectively
- Offer support and challenge to organisations in relation to allegations management and safer recruitment
- Deliver training on the process of allegations management as part of the Council’s training offer
- Work with organisations and settings that are unfamiliar with the role of Local Authority Designated Officer to develop their understanding of the management of allegations
Requirements of the Local Authority Designated Officer:
- Social Work qualification and Social Work England registration
- Knowledge of legislation, procedure, practice and guidance in relation to managing allegations
- Extensive relevant management and post qualifying experience
As the Local Authority Designated Officer, you will have administrative support and will be responsible for managing the administrative officer whose role is to support the LADO function. You will also be part of the south west regional LADO group and will be supported to attend the bi-monthly meetings held.
