We are a highly successful unitary Local Authority, responsible for delivering a wide range of vital public services. Within the Finance Service, the Revenues Team is responsible for the billing and collection of Council Tax, Non-Domestic Rates and Business Improvement District Levy. We work proactively to support the changing needs of the organisation to ensure the best possible experience for all customers.

We are seeking a diligent and customer-focused Council Tax Officer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate and up-to-date Council Tax records, as well as handling enquiries from the public, colleagues, and external organisations. A comprehensive, detailed and working knowledge of the legislation surrounding local taxation; preferably relating to Council Tax is desirable. You will be working in line with national and corporate policies, procedures, and legislative requirements, so will need to understand and be responsive to customer needs.

You will ideally have experience of working in a team and providing an excellent service to others. You will be a conscientious person, who embraces change and is not afraid of a challenge as we continually look to improve our services and performance. You will have the ability to negotiate on all levels to gain the best possible solution for both Customer and Service, with an ability to use your initiative to solve both expected and unexpected problems as well as having the ability to use IT systems to interpret and input data and information accurately. You will demonstrate a positive and professional image to the customer whilst ensuring effective engagement with all stakeholders.

About The Role
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date Council Tax records, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and regulations
  • Handle enquiries from the public, colleagues, and external organisations promptly and professionally, providing accurate advice and guidance
  • Investigate and resolve queries related to Council Tax
  • Liaise with external and internal partners and agencies to ensure accurate billing and collection of Council Tax
  • Conduct regular audits and reviews to identify and rectify any discrepancies or errors in Council Tax
  • Stay updated with changes in legislation and regulations pertaining to Council Tax, ensuring accurate advice and compliance.
  • Communicating by telephone and digital channels
  • Maintaining and balancing the Valuation Office Agency schedules
