Registered Building Inspector (2A-F) Building Control

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess Building Regulation applications for compliance across the city and wider area and carry out appropriate enforcement activity where necessary.
  • Liaise with applicants and agents regarding Building Regulation applications.
  • Undertake site inspection activity in relation to Building Regulation applications.
  • Assess dangerous structures to ensure public safety and carry out other public safety work.
  • Operate in accordance with defined protocols and procedures to ensure compliance with the Operating Standards Rules.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Member of a relevant professional body (e.g. RICS, CABE, CIOB) or working towards one.
  • Degree level education or suitable experience.
  • Current in terms of Continuing Professional Development.
  • Excellent understanding of construction and current legislation.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency at organising workload.

Our District

The Team

The Building Control team sits within the Planning and Building Control Service and consists of 8 Registered Building Inspectors, a Structural Engineer and a team of dedicated Technical Support Officers. We also carry out work on Higher Risk Buildings on behalf of the Building Safety Regulator.
