About the Team

Exciting opportunities to join our Capital Programme and Project Delivery Team. This role represents a fantastic opportunity to be an integral part of the transformation within a UNESCO World Heritage Site and UNESCO World Heritage Spa, around Britain’s only thermal springs, within an area of outstanding natural beauty. You’ll be joining at a time when Bath and North East Somerset Council (B&NES) is undertaking a period of significant capital investment, across a range of challenging projects throughout our unique and diverse property and asset portfolio. The Capital Construction Programme is shaping the long-term sustainability of transport, and the social, historic, environmental and economic landscape of the area, as well as facilitating income-generating initiatives.

We are seeking experienced Project Managers with a proven track record in transport and/or highways civil engineering construction design, planning and technical project management delivery, to join our award-winning team.

About the projects:

  • Active Travel: The Somer Valley Links project aims to improve travel between Midsomer Norton, Radstock, Westfield and Bath via the A367 and Bristol via the A37; and the A362 link road between them, through better bus infrastructure and enabling more walking and cycling. It’ll make alternative modes more attractive, enable reduced car use and support improved public health, as well as better air quality and cutting carbon emissions along the corridors. With a total allocation currently of close to £18m, this is a high-profile inter-urban movement initiative within the CRSTs programme.
  • Liveable Neighbourhoods: The Liveable Neighbourhoods (LN) programme is a community-led programme which will see public realm improvements in residential areas. The aim is to improve residential streets and encourage safe, active and more sustainable forms of travel, such as walking, wheeling and cycling. The council has already delivered 4 experimental schemes, giving the public the opportunity to experience interventions and provide feedback on their impacts. Following the approval of a full business case by the West of England Combined Authority (WECA), there will be an ambitious programme to deliver other measures and interventions, creating the opportunity for new project managers to join our busy and supportive project team.
  • Residents Parking Zones (RPZs): As part of the LN programme, the council is delivering new residents parking zones, together with the ongoing review of schemes delivered in 2023 to understand the realised benefits and to develop improvements. These schemes are challenging both in terms of their complexity and involvement of stakeholders - residents, businesses, and local elected members.
  • Bath City Centre: The Bath City Centre Sustainable Transport Corridor aims to deliver walking and cycling infrastructure to the centre of Bath. The project prioritises the safe movement of people across the city, improving connectivity and air quality through the reduction of transport-related emissions. Working with WECA, the council aims to develop a full business case for the scheme before delivery begins in 2025.

About the Role

You will be joining a friendly, experienced, and supportive Programme and Construction Project Management Team who collectively work across a diverse portfolio of projects from Highways, Corporate and Commercial Estates, Housing and Compliance Maintenance with a combined project value in excess of £200m. This includes the retrofit of many of our 1,100 properties and delivery of sustainable transport/neighbourhoods, public realm and new build projects, to achieve net-zero by 2030.

Working as part of the wider Sustainable Communities team, which also has responsibility for Planning, Heritage Services, Housing, Transport Strategy, Public Realm, and Corporate Estate, you will need to be a team player with excellent people and project management skills. Whilst the office base will be Keynsham Civic Centre, easily accessible via car or public transport, we offer flexible working, including home working for which IT equipment will be provided, and we are open-minded in structuring working arrangements to suit the right candidates.
