At Bath & North East Somerset Council, we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives. We are looking to recruit a Social Care Finance Assessment Officer to join our friendly team within the council’s Financial Services. This role is a fixed‑term contract of 12 months, requiring a commitment of 37 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Conduct financial assessments to determine clients’ liability for adult social care services. This includes collecting and analysing financial information, applying government legislation and the council’s charging and financial assessment framework, calculating and issuing invoices, sending notification letters, and responding to enquiries by email and telephone.
- The role may involve occasional visits to clients or their representatives in their homes.
- The officer reports directly to the Care Finance Team Leader and works closely with other members of the Social Care Finance Assessment team as well as cross‑functional colleagues within Financial Services.
Qualifications
- Excellent knowledge of Welfare Benefits and good numeracy skills.
- Strong communication and customer‑service skills, with the ability to present information clearly and accurately to clients and their representatives.
- Attention to detail and a forensic approach to information gathering and decision‑making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Full UK driving licence.
- Experience in adult social care finance or extensive knowledge of Welfare Benefits is highly advantageous.
- Subject to an enhanced DBS check in line with safeguarding policies.
