In the Design & Projects Team, engineers and project staff work to turn policy into projects that change how people move—creating safer crossings and junctions, building cycleways and inclusive wheeling routes, improved facilities for bus users, and putting in place measures so walking becomes the easy, natural choice. About the Role: Active Travel Projects Officer (Engineer I RP107) – 1 post
Role Summary: This post reports to Senior Design Engineer or Principal Design Engineer level and leads on active travel projects. The role will initially be focussed on the delivery and management of on‑street cycle hangar parking facilities, and over time will become involved in developing and facilitating the delivery of other active travel work across the team.
What We Are Looking For: These roles sit at the heart of the Council’s commitment to tackle the Climate and Ecological Emergency and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. We are looking for people who are passionate about designing streets and places that prioritise active and sustainable travel.
- This is not an engineering role but requires an individual with either a transport planning or other technical background who has a solid understanding and experience of measures to promote and implement active travel measures (walking, wheeling and cycling).
- Experience of managing projects from inception, design, consultation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
- Proven ability to manage highway or transport projects and budgets.
