Off The Record Bath & North East Somerset (OTR) is a mental health and wellbeing charity that provides local children and young people with a safe space to be heard and be themselves. Purpose of the role

The CAMHS and Hospital Youth Work Lead will manage and develop the RUH Hospital Youth Workers and BANES Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Social Prescribing Link Workers services, working closely with partners at RUH, CAMHS and the wider BANES community.

  • Manage referrals into the Hospital Youth Workers and CAMHS Link Workers services.
  • Lead monitoring of service impact and report regularly to funders and partners.
  • Engage in direct 1:1 casework with young people.
  • Ensure strong safeguarding practice across both teams.

The role combines team leadership, safeguarding oversight, partnership working and frontline youth work, strengthening collaboration between hospital and CAMHS teams, community organisations and local services to ensure CYP access appropriate non‑clinical support.

Working with CYP at RUH

Oversee work with CYP aged 11–25 who present at the Emergency Department with low to moderate mental health needs, or who are admitted to hospital wards with long‑term health conditions. Manage a limited 1:1 caseload alongside project‑management duties, utilising a person‑centred and trauma‑informed approach. Support may be face‑to‑face or virtual, focusing on increasing community‑based support, wellbeing, resilience and reducing repeat hospital attendance.

Working with CYP at CAMHS

Oversee work with CYP aged 10–17 accepted into CAMHS with moderate challenges. Link Workers accompany CYP at the start of CAMHS support and when they are ready for discharge, delivering social prescribing as the main intervention. Manage a small caseload, working with CYP for approximately 10–12 weeks.

Key Attributes

  • Experience managing teams and projects within Hospital, Youth or Mental Health & Wellbeing services.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with other professionals, services and organisations.
  • Comfortable working in a busy, multi‑agency environment with competing demands.
  • Experience supporting CYP 1:1 with complex needs.
  • Sound judgement in safeguarding concerns and risk assessment.

Working pattern and location

The role is primarily based at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, with some travel around B&NES to support CYP on the CAMHS caseload. Some time each week will also be spent at the CAMHS office in Keynsham. Occasional out‑of‑hours work may be required for safeguarding on‑call rota or other needs. Applicants must be able to travel within and outside the local authority, including areas with no public transport.
