At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced, or aspiring, Team Manager to join us within one of our Family Help Teams.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified social worker, with existing supervisory experience to take on a leadership role at a time of significant transformation within Children's Services. As we continue to develop and embed our Families First approach, you will play a key role in shaping and influencing the future of a unified Family Help service, leading a committed multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, relationship-based support to children, young people and families whilst ensuring strong, effective multi agency collaboration.

As Team Manager, you will provide leadership and management to a team comprising of 3 Deputy Team Managers, Senior Social Work Practitioners, Social Workers, Family Help Lead Practitioners and Business Support staff.

Our new Family Help Model aims to bring together professionals supporting the child, ensure families tell their story once and can build strong consistent relationships with practitioners.

About you:

We are looking for someone with extensive knowledge and experience of children's social work practice, including child protection, child in need planning and managing care proceedings. You will have a strong track record of supervising and developing practitioners, supporting reflective practice and providing effective management oversight. You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills, able to manage competing demands while maintaining a clear focus on high-quality practice and positive outcomes for children.

Most importantly, we are seeking a leader who is passionate about improving the lives of children and families and who is committed to supporting children to remain safely within their families wherever possible through strengths based, restorative practice.

What you can expect:

  • A comprehensive induction programme
  • Regular supervision with your Head of Service
  • Monthly Peer Circles, promoting collaboration, support and shared learning between Team Managers
  • Extensive learning and development opportunities, which include SARI workshops, Systemic Practice, Attachment-informed and trauma-informed practice training
  • Excellent business support within each team
  • Tri-annual Social Work Conferences with nationally recognised speakers and experts in the field. Previous speakers have included Donald Forrester, Annie from Surviving Safeguarding, and Dr Karen Treisman
  • Paid Social Work England registration renewal
  • Access to Research in Practice
  • Flexible and agile working supported through laptop provision
  • Relocation payments available
  • A stable and experienced leadership team with committed staff
  • A culture that celebrates and recognises good practice through regular communications and shared learning opportunities

To apply, you will be:

  • A qualified Social Worker registered with Social Work England
  • An experienced leader with a strong background in children's social care, including safeguarding, child protection and court work
  • Confident in providing management oversight, developing practitioners and supporting high-quality practice
  • Knowledgeable about children's social care legislation, policy and evidence-informed practice
  • Excited by the opportunity to lead teams through change and help embed our Families First approach
  • Organised, decisive and committed to achieving the very best outcomes for children and families

If you are a passionate, motivated and experienced leader who wants to be at the forefront of shaping Family Help services and leading practice through an exciting period of change, we would love to hear from you!
