Do you have substantial safeguarding experience and the ability to influence positive change across education settings and multi‑agency partnerships? Bath & North East Somerset Council is seeking an exceptional Senior Education Advisor (Safeguarding) to join our Integrated Front Door Team as part of the Families First Reforms. This is a new and exciting opportunity to play a key strategic and operational role in safeguarding children and young people, while supporting education settings to deliver safe, inclusive and effective learning environments.

About the Role:

As our Senior Education Advisor (Safeguarding), you will provide specialist educational safeguarding expertise across Bath & North East Somerset. It is a new full‑time position and is initially as a fixed term contract for one year. You will:

  • Provide specialist advice, guidance and consultation on safeguarding matters affecting children and young people.
  • Represent education at child protection and multi‑agency safeguarding meetings, ensuring education is effectively represented in planning and decision‑making.
  • Act as a key link between education settings and the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
  • Provide professional challenge and scrutiny to promote effective safeguarding interventions and improved outcomes.
  • Lead quality assurance activity, undertake safeguarding reviews and contribute to inspection readiness.
  • Work collaboratively with schools, early years settings, colleges, social care, health services, police and other partners to strengthen safeguarding practice across the local area.

About You:

We are looking for a committed safeguarding professional who can combine strategic thinking with practical support and challenge. You will have:

  • A degree‑level qualification and relevant experience within education, safeguarding, social care, youth work or a related field.
  • Experience as a Designated Safeguarding Lead or substantial experience working with schools, early years settings or vulnerable learners.
  • Strong knowledge of safeguarding legislation, education systems and statutory responsibilities affecting children and young people.
  • Experience of successful multi‑agency partnership working that has improved outcomes for children and families.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and report‑writing skills, with the confidence to influence, support and challenge colleagues and partners constructively.
  • A commitment to promoting inclusion, safeguarding and high aspirations for vulnerable children and young people.
