About the Team

We are looking for a motivated and organised Information Governance Officer (IGO) to join our busy Data Protection Team and help deliver high-quality services. This is an important role helping to ensure the council remains compliant with data protection legislation, with a focus on processing requests for personal data (mainly under subject access).

The Data Protection Team sit within the wider Information Governance function and provide Data Protection services to Bath and North East Somerset Council, as well as traded services to another neighbouring local authority and a mayoral combined authority. i-West also includes an FOI/EIR service, Information/Cyber Security service, social care complaints service, and an external DPO Service. One West (which overarches i-West) provides wider professional services, including internal audit, records management / archives, risk management, and corporate complaints.

About the Role

As an IGO you will support the Senior Information Governance Officer to make sure subject access requests (SARs) and other disclosure requests (courts, solicitors, police, other councils etc) are managed in line with statutory requirements, and internal data protection enquiries, such as advice on Privacy Notices, Sharing Agreements and Data Protection Impact Assessments are responded to in accordance with data protection legislation.

About You

You will be organised, accurate and confident communicating with a wide range of people by phone and email. You will be able to manage sensitive information carefully, keep clear records and work well under pressure. Strong written communication skills, and attention to detail are essential.

Experience of processing SARs, particularly within social care (adults/children) would be helpful, but it is not essential. We will provide training, regular supervision and support to help you develop in the role.

There may also be opportunities to work from our offices at the Guildhall in Bath, The Hollies in Midsomer Norton, and Town Hall in Weston-Super-Mare.
