At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose - to improve people's lives.
Fixed Term Contract (until 05/05/2028)
Help shape the future of clean air in one of the UK's most ambitious environmental programmes.
Bath's Clean Air Zone was the first charging Clean Air Zone outside London and has already delivered significant improvements in air quality. As we continue our work, we are looking for a talented, analytical and motivated officer to help us understand, evaluate and communicate the impact of our environmental policies and interventions.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the heart of environmental monitoring, policy development and public health improvement. Your work will directly influence decisions that affect residents, businesses and communities across Bath and North East Somerset.
About the role:
As our Clean Air Zone Monitoring Outcomes Officer, you will lead the collection, analysis and presentation of information that helps us understand the effectiveness of the Clean Air Zone, and wider air quality initiatives. You will transform data into meaningful insights that support decision-making by officers, senior managers, Councillors and partner organisations.
The role will involve:
- Supporting the production and coordinating the annual Clean Air Zone Outcomes Report.
- Analysing air quality, environmental and transport-related datasets.
- Preparing reports, briefings, presentations and management information.
- Supporting the delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the Clean Air Strategy.
- Undertaking research into air pollution, environmental outcomes and public health impacts.
- Working with colleagues across Environmental Monitoring, Public Protection, Public Health, Transport, Communications and external partners.
- Supporting consultation, engagement and evidence-gathering activities.
- Improving data quality, reporting systems and information management processes.
About you:
We're looking for someone who enjoys working with information, is naturally curious and can turn complex evidence into clear, accessible messages.
You will have:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
- Experience of collecting, validating, interpreting and presenting data.
- The ability to write clear reports and present information confidently to a range of audiences.
- Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to data quality.
- An interest in environmental issues, public health, sustainability or climate-related work.
Experience in local government, environmental monitoring, air quality, data analysis, research, performance management or policy development would be advantageous but is not essential.
If you're passionate about using evidence, data and insight to create healthier places and improve environmental outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
Help us improve people's lives through better data, better decisions and cleaner air!
