We're looking for a Compliance Officer to help keep children and young people safe when travelling to and from school. In this role, you'll support the Council's Home to School Travel service by checking that transport providers meet required safety, safeguarding and contractual standards. Your work will give assurance that drivers, passenger assistants and vehicles are compliant, properly checked and operating in line with regulations.
About the RoleYou'll carry out routine and spot compliance checks, review documentation such as DBS certificates and training records, and undertake inspections of transport providers. You'll respond to complaints and incidents, help investigate concerns, and play a key role in safeguarding children and young people using council arranged transport. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, producing reports, and helping to deliver safeguarding and health & safety training to providers. The post is a mix of office based, home working and visits to providers' premises, schools and other sites etc., so flexibility and the ability to organise your own workload are essential.
About YouWe're looking for someone who is organised, methodical and confident working with rules, processes and evidence. You'll be comfortable communicating clearly with a wide range of people, including transport providers, drivers, passenger assistants and council colleagues. You'll be able to work independently, manage competing priorities and apply sound judgement when issues arise. Experience in a compliance, inspection or assurance role is ideal, and an understanding of safeguarding, health and safety, or passenger transport would be an advantage. Above all, you'll be committed to keeping people safe, acting with integrity, and upholding the Council's standards and values.
