At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives. If you love working with people and thrive in a busy customer-facing environment, we'd love to hear from you. Our Customer Services team is the front door to Bath & North East Somerset Council. Every day we welcome residents, visitors and local businesses into our customer service centres across Bath, Keynsham and Midsomer Norton, helping them access the support and services they need.

We're looking for friendly, approachable people who enjoy interacting with customers and delivering great service. Experience in retail, hospitality, leisure, reception, travel, banking or other customer-facing roles is highly valued. We have full-time, part-time, casual and multi-site opportunities available.

A Role That Puts People First

This is primarily a face-to-face customer service role. You'll spend much of your day welcoming customers, understanding what they need and helping them find the right solution. Whether you're helping somebody access a council service, providing information, checking documents, taking payments or supporting a booking, you'll be the friendly face that makes customers feel welcome, supported and confident. Many enquiries can be resolved straight away, giving you the opportunity to make an immediate difference to someone's day. When a customer needs specialist support, you'll work closely with colleagues across the council to ensure they receive the help they need.

How You'll Make a Difference

Your work will have a real impact on people's daily lives. You'll:

  • Welcome customers into our service centres and create a positive first impression
  • Listen carefully and understand what customers need
  • Provide helpful information and guidance in person, by telephone and online
  • Check documents and information accurately
  • Process payments, bookings and routine transactions
  • Support customers who may feel anxious, frustrated or unsure what to do next
  • Escalate complex enquiries to specialist teams when needed
  • Maintain accurate records to ensure excellent customer service

What You'll Bring

You don't need to be an expert in council services on day one. We'll provide training and support. We're particularly interested in people who:

  • Have experience working directly with customers in retail, hospitality, leisure, reception, travel, banking or similar customer-focused environments
  • Enjoy talking to people and building positive relationships
  • Can remain calm, professional and helpful during busy periods
  • Are confident dealing with a wide range of customers and enquiries
  • Have good attention to detail and can follow processes accurately
  • Are comfortable using digital systems and technology
  • Take pride in delivering excellent customer service
  • Work well as part of a supportive team

A good standard of education is desirable, but your customer service skills, attitude and experience are what matter most.
