Location: Keynsham, Bristol, UK.

The Role: To manage the safe, legal and efficient operation of the vehicle resource and transport operation, ensuring full compliance with the company operators licence and all applicable legislation. The transport manager will be named on the company operators licence and take legal responsibility and accountability.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership and work instructions, monitor compliance and performance within the operators licence and associated fleet.
  • Plan to ensure drivers comply with driver’s hours and tachograph rules and regulations.
  • Monitor vehicle defect reporting, inspection/maintenance records and present vehicles at workshop for repairs.
  • Resource all requested vehicles to site.
  • Meet with suppliers and set agreed prices for parts.
  • Procure all maintenance and repair materials.
  • Oversee the provision of maintenance to our vehicle manufacturers’ recommendations.
  • Manage renewal of company vehicles.
  • Analyse cost reports, including transport costs and maintenance costs to ensure best return on investment.
  • Take an active role in the enrolment of new staff and apprentices and their development within the business.
  • Carry out regular driver meetings.
  • Manage drivers’ hours, holidays, attendance, induction performance management and disciplinaries.
  • Manage fuel for the vehicle fleet.
  • Ensure drivers CPC qualifications and other relevant qualifications required for drivers and mechanics are maintained.
  • Ensure all necessary reports are produced accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Meet with MD on a regular basis to propose replacement and disposal of vehicles and discuss future needs.
  • Other tasks as may be required by site management to assist in the smooth, safe and compliant running of the business and operation.

Essential Skills & Requirements:

  • Certificate of Professional Competence.
  • FORS/CLOCKS/DVSA recognition knowledge.
  • Ability to lead a team of 20 drivers or more.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Full health and safety awareness.
  • Compliance with vehicle safety, procurement, disposal.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
