Lead the Future of York with Batchelors Motor Group

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced automotive leader to take overall responsibility for Batchelors Motor Group's York operation, representing both the Suzuki and Omoda | Jaecoo franchises.

Reporting directly to the Directors, the successful candidate will lead all aspects of the business, including sales, aftersales, financial performance, people development, customer satisfaction, and strategic growth.

At Batchelors Motor Group, we are proud to be a family-owned business with over 30 years of success in the automotive industry. We believe in TLC, not PLC. Whilst many large dealer groups focus on processes and shareholders, we focus on people. We believe our customers deserve exceptional care, and our colleagues deserve support, respect, and opportunity.

We are seeking an exceptional automotive leader with proven Main Dealer experience who combines commercial acumen with genuine people leadership. Someone who understands that great businesses are built through great people and shares our belief in TLC, not PLC.

About the York Operation:

Our York dealership opened in 2018 and has experienced a remarkable journey. Like many businesses, it has faced significant challenges, including Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, the withdrawal of Mitsubishi from the UK new car market, and the global vehicle supply shortages that followed. Despite these challenges, the business has continued to evolve, grow, and strengthen. The introduction of Omoda | Jaecoo in September 2024 marked a transformational period for the site, driving substantial growth and establishing York as one of the most exciting and fast-moving operations within our group. Today, York is a busy and thriving dealership with significant opportunities ahead. We are looking for the right leader to continue that journey and help shape the next chapter of success.

The Role:

As General Manager, you will be the senior leader responsible for the overall performance and development of the York operation. You will lead and support a team of experienced departmental managers across Sales, Aftersales, Parts, Service, and Administration, ensuring all departments work collaboratively to achieve outstanding results. You will act as the primary link between the York business and the Directors of Batchelors Motor Group, providing regular operational updates, financial forecasts, strategic recommendations, and business performance reporting. This is a role for a hands-on leader who enjoys being visible within the business, developing people, driving performance, and creating a culture that colleagues are proud to be part of. Whilst the position operates Monday to Friday, the York dealership is a seven-day operation. As the leader of the site, there will be an expectation to undertake occasional weekend visits and provide support where required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, inspire, and develop the York dealership team.
  • Support and mentor departmental managers, helping them achieve their full potential.
  • Create and maintain a positive, high-performance culture aligned with Batchelors Motor Group values.
  • Promote colleague engagement, wellbeing, accountability, and professional development.
  • Ensure all departments work collaboratively to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Lead by example and act as an ambassador for the Batchelors brand.
  • Take full responsibility for the overall profitability and performance of the York operation.
  • Produce and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans.
  • Deliver accurate financial forecasting and business performance reporting directly to the Directors of Batchelors Motor Group.
  • Monitor and analyse departmental performance across Sales, Aftersales, Parts, and Administration.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and implement strategies to maximise revenue, profitability, and customer retention.
  • Present regular branch performance reviews, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to the Directors.

Customer Experience & Operational Excellence:

  • Ensure exceptional customer satisfaction standards are achieved throughout the dealership.
  • Drive continuous improvement across all customer touchpoints.
  • Maintain compliance with manufacturer standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with manufacturer representatives and suppliers.
  • Ensure operational excellence across all departments.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

About You:

The successful candidate will possess:

  • Significant Main Dealer experience within a franchised automotive environment.
  • Previous experience as a General Manager, Head of Business, Dealer Principal, Branch Manager, or senior dealership leader.
  • A proven track record of delivering strong commercial and operational results.
  • Experience managing dealership budgets, financial forecasting, and profit and loss performance.
  • The ability to confidently present business performance, forecasts, and strategic recommendations to company directors and manufacturer partners.
  • Outstanding leadership and people management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and business acumen.
  • A customer-first mindset with a passion for delivering exceptional service.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong organisational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • High levels of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • A full UK driving licence.
