British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for a Technologist β Mechanical Engineer Prototyping in Southampton.
Key Objectives and Expectations:
- The Senior Technologist - Device Prototyping role is chiefly responsible for the execution of assigned tasks using laboratory and machine shop equipment and expertise across a range of projects and activities within the Design for Manufacture portfolio to support the delivery of development projects and the delivery of the R&D pipeline.
- The successful candidate will need to be a strong teammate and have a strong desire to work in a fast-paced and diverse environment.
- An ability to learn new skills and be creative in finding solutions to problems and driving delivery is crucial.
Direct Impact:
This role will utilise knowledge of Design for Manufacture, workshop equipment and manufacturing methods to assist a team of senior engineers and scientists in prototype manufacture and testing to ensure that products can be made to deliver customer requirements, quality and cost criteria.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accountability for the delivery of assigned activities across a portfolio of projects and activities within the Device Prototyping and development portfolio.
- Hold workshop/lab expertise in operating the required machinery/testing capabilities (Full training will be given) to perform assigned tasks in the required time frames.
- Technical understanding of workstreams within the product development plan of a given project to deliver the assigned tasks within the required timescales and in line with product launch target dates.
- Awareness of standard methodologies and compliance using technical knowledge and broad scientific principles to ensure effective delivery of an appropriate given task.
- Assist and work closely with senior engineers and scientists within the team with a focus on upskilling and personal breadth and depth of technical knowledge.
Experience Required:
- Ability to deliver against a portfolio of tasks within defined timescales.
- Flexible, motivated and passionate about safety, quality and value.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, ability to collaborate with internal/external capabilities, as well as ability to plan and prioritise tasks based on business need.
Education/Qualifications/Certifications Required:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Mechanical or electro-mechanical engineering or time served apprenticeship background as an engineering technician / HNC-level qualification in a relevant field with significant proven experience.
