Key responsibilities

  • Accountability for the delivery of assigned activities across a portfolio of projects within the MO product development portfolio.
  • Operate laboratory equipment and required machinery/testing capabilities to perform tasks within required time frames, contributing to the testing of new products and technology.
  • Understand the technical aspects of workstreams in the product development plan and deliver assigned tasks within required timescales and in line with product launch targets.
  • Apply best practices and compliance using technical knowledge and broad scientific principles to ensure effective delivery of tasks.
  • Assist and work closely with senior product developers to upskill personal breadth and depth of technical knowledge in new categories product development and learn the chemistry of substances such as Modern Oral blends.
  • Manage laboratory testing activities, methodologies, and equipment capabilities to fulfill project needs.
  • Minimise laboratory risk by escalating issues with workstream delivery to senior scientists, capturing difficulties and filling knowledge gaps.
  • Ensure confidentiality of all technology and composition information to safeguard BAT’s unique output.

Experience required

  • Ability to deliver against a portfolio of tasks within defined timescales.
  • Demonstrated experience managing internal and external stakeholders.
  • Broad understanding of product testing approaches and data interpretation.
  • Broad knowledge of product research and development, including related methodologies.
  • Ability to work in a chemical laboratory, handling solvents, acids and highly toxic substances.

Technical / Functional / Leadership skills required

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with internal/external stakeholders.
  • Ability to plan and prioritise tasks based on business need.
  • Competent working in a lab environment and using equipment.

Education / Qualifications / Certifications required

  • Minimum of a degree‑level qualification in a relevant field of study (e.g., Chemistry, Food science, Technology science, Materials science, engineering).
