BAT is recruiting an Insurance Manager to support the delivery of the Group’s insurance programmes and provide specialist insurance input across the business, working with collaborators across Finance, Procurement and Operations. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, technically strong and analytical Insurance Manager to join a rapidly evolving global organisation. The role offers the opportunity to broaden multinational insurance expertise across key global insurance programmes, further develop business partnering and stakeholder management capabilities, and apply strong analytical skills to advance the use of data and analytics within the corporate insurance activities.
The role handles the delivery of the Group’s risk engineering programme and contributes insurance and risk management input into wider business initiatives. It is also responsible for quantifying, analysing and presenting the Group’s insurance exposures, including material prepared for senior partners, ensuring the approach remains relevant to BAT’s evolving supply chain, climate‑related risks and broader business priorities. The role is expected to make effective use of data analytics and AI to strengthen exposure insight and improve process efficiency within the function.
Working relationships
- Internal: Build effective working relationships across the Group, working closely with functional and end‑market Finance and Operations teams, contributing specialist input and supporting discussion at different levels of the organisation.
- External: Work with key insurance and risk management partners, as well as with peers in other organisations, as required within its remit.
Key Accountabilities
- Manage the delivery of selected global insurance programmes within defined scope, including all aspects of programme management such as acting as the point of contact for technical insurance guidance in response to queries from internal and external partners.
- Reviewing and challenging policy coverage, and working with broker and insurer wording specialists to develop tailored policy wording.
- Negotiating, placing and renewing insurance policies within the defined governance framework.
- Act as a point of contact for end markets on claims management where coverage or quantum is disputed, supporting resolution with brokers and insurers as required.
- Provide insurance and risk management input into business initiatives.
- Work with stakeholders and support the preparation of communication for senior management on key risk exposures.
- Supporting and enhancing financial modelling and analysis to quantify the impact of disruption across the supply chain.
- Support the management of external partners against agreed objectives and contractual arrangements, while maintaining awareness of product developments relevant to BAT and its emerging risk landscape.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of insurance market conditions and standard process.
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
- A relevant Risk Management or Insurance qualification is required.
- Experience of managing global multinational insurance programmes, with a strong focus on articulating exposures, is required.
- The ability to critically analyse policy construction and interpret policy wording.
- The expertise to assess wording adequacy and confidently challenge policy language with brokers and insurers.
- The ability to critically evaluate risk engineering outputs and clearly articulate their implications for Property Damage/Business Interruption exposures.
- A good understanding of BAT’s business and operating model is desirable; experience in a large multinational organisation is required.
- Strong facilitation and interpersonal skills, together with proven influencing and negotiation capability are required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to produce high‑quality documents and engage effectively at all levels of the organisation.
- The ability to think creatively and solve problems from an insurable risk and policy wording perspective.
- The ability to simplify complex situations and synthesise and present complex information is essential, supported by a demonstrable record of strong analytical capability.
- Strong project management skills, with the ability to prioritise competing demands and deliver to deadlines, are required.
- Strong IT literacy is required, including advanced proficiency in core Microsoft Office applications, together with the ability to use other relevant business systems, data tools and AI‑enabled applications effectively.
