Job description

As part of this commitment, we are seeking a Street Naming and Numbering Assistant to support the delivery of this statutory service.

This role will support the accurate creation, management and maintenance of addressing information across Bassetlaw, ensuring compliance with national standards and contributing to effective service delivery across the Council and partner organisations.

The role

Reporting to the Principal Lawyer (Legal & Licensing), the postholder will provide administrative and technical support to the Street Naming and Numbering function. You will assist with the processing of applications, maintain accurate address and property records, and deliver a professional and responsive service to customers and stakeholders.

The role requires close collaboration with internal services such as Planning, Building Control, Revenues and Benefits and Customer Services, as well as external organisations including developers, parish councils, Royal Mail and the emergency services. Accurate addressing underpins many frontline and statutory services, and this role makes a significant contribution to the council’s data quality and performance.

Key responsibilities

  • Supporting the administration and processing of Street Naming and Numbering applications
  • Maintaining and updating address and property records in line with national and corporate standards
  • Preparing documentation including draft numbering schemes, consultation correspondence and certificates
  • Providing clear and professional responses to customer enquiries
  • Liaising with internal services and external partners to ensure timely and accurate data sharing
  • Maintaining accurate records, case files and tracking information
  • Assisting with data quality checks and the preparation of mapping and spatial information

About you

You will be a well‑organised and detail‑focused individual with experience of administrative work and accurate data entry. You will communicate clearly and professionally, be confident using ICT systems and demonstrate a commitment to consistent, high‑quality work. Experience of customer service and an understanding of addresses, mapping or spatial data would be advantageous, although training will be provided.
