Job description

HOUSING REGISTRATIONS ASSISTANT

Housing Services

Grade 2: Β£26,427 – 27,709 per annum (pro-rata), Permanent Contract

Part-Time, 29.6 hours per week

A customer-focused housing role combining administration, accurate record keeping and direct support for residents.

About the role

We are looking for an organised, customer-focused Housing Registrations Assistant to join our Housing service.

This is a varied role where you will provide administrative support while helping customers navigate housing applications and access the information and advice they need. You will maintain accurate records, respond to enquiries and support the effective delivery of our housing registration and allocations service.

You will communicate with customers by telephone, in writing and face to face. You will also work with colleagues, Registered Providers, private landlords and other partner agencies, so strong communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships are essential.

  • Processing housing applications and supporting documentation and maintaining accurate information on our Choice Based Lettings systems.
  • Helping to manage and maintain the housing register, including renewals and changes to applications.
  • Providing information and advice to customers about Choice Based Lettings and housing options.
  • Responding to enquiries by telephone, in writing and face to face in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Liaising with Council colleagues, Registered Providers, private landlords and other partner agencies.
  • Maintaining accurate records and providing general administrative support to the team.
  • Supporting the wider Housing service when required and contributing to continuous service improvement.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

  • Has excellent customer service and communication skills and can deal with people sensitively and professionally.
  • Is organised and able to manage a varied workload, prioritise tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Has experience of administrative duties, maintaining records and using computerised systems.
  • Has a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Can communicate confidently with a wide range of people, both verbally and in writing.
  • Works accurately and efficiently, with strong attention to detail.
  • Enjoys working as part of a team but can also use their own initiative.
  • Is keen to learn, develop and contribute to a high-quality, customer-focused service.

Housing experience isn't essential

If you don't currently work in housing, we'd still like to hear from you.

Previous experience of housing services, Choice Based Lettings, tenancy management, empty homes, property repairs and maintenance or local government would be useful, but it is not essential. We are equally interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong customer service, administrative and organisational skills, together with a genuine willingness to learn.

Full training and support will be provided to help the successful candidate develop their knowledge of housing services and relevant processes.

We value diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive workplace. We actively welcome applications from all sections of the community. Our recruitment processes are fair, transparent, and designed to ensure that everyone is treated equally at every stage.

Contact: Human.Resources@bassetlaw.gov.uk or call 01909 533121, we are here to support you.
