Overview

Fixed-term appointment of 6 months with the possibility of extension and/or permanency.

Are you passionate about delivering high-quality, efficient waste and recycling services that make a real difference to local communities? No two days will be the same in this fast-paced and rewarding role. You\'ll spend time both in the office and out on site where you will provide operational delivery and strategic direction across all aspects of waste, recycling, street cleansing and fleet & transport service.

Ensuring statutory obligations are met, you will also lead the service forward‑promoting innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement, always supporting the Council\'s ambitions around sustainability and carbon reduction.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and continuous improvement of waste, recycling, street cleansing and fleet & transport services across Bassetlaw.
  • Ensure statutory obligations are met and lead service forward‑promoting innovation, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide operational delivery and strategic direction across all aspects of waste, recycling, street cleansing and fleet & transport service.
  • Support the Council\'s ambitions around sustainability and carbon reduction.

Qualifications

  • Experience of managing high‑value budgets.
  • Strong legislative knowledge and project management skills.
  • Experience ensuring high standards of health and safety and performance management across a large multi‑disciplinary workforce.
  • Experience in waste management services.

Community Impact

We serve over 57,000 households, collecting from every house, every week, 52 weeks of the year. This is 2,974,000 collections every year.

Currently we offer three services: a domestic green bin for general waste, a blue bin for recyclable waste, and a garden waste service to which over 14,200 households subscribe.

Bassetlaw has ambitions to introduce glass kerbside collections, to be fully rolled out by April 2026, and food waste collections to be introduced in 2027.

As a council, our shared vision is for Bassetlaw to be a green and sustainable district which is ready to face the challenges of climate change. Going forward, this means our objective must be to maximise recycling and minimise general waste. We must work to improve and enhance communications with residents, enabling everyone to help achieve these aims.
