Reports to: Safeguarding, Welfare & Compliance Manager/HR Business Partner.
Contract: Fixed Term - initial 10-month contract.
Purpose
To lead and coordinate integrity across Basketball England and GB Basketball activity delivered within the Basketball England governance structure, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding, conduct, compliance and ethical practice.
Key Accountabilities
- Complaints Handling & Case Management: Act as the central point of contact for complaints, concerns and integrity-related matters across the sport. Receive, triage and manage concerns relating to safeguarding, conduct, discipline and regulatory breaches. Ensure all cases are managed fairly, proportionately and within agreed timelines, maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Maintain accurate and secure case records in line with GDPR, enabling reporting and trend analysis. Provide clear and consistent communication to stakeholders throughout the lifecycle of a case.
- Investigations: Lead and oversee investigations into safeguarding and integrity concerns, including gathering evidence, conducting interviews and producing detailed reports. Analyse evidence objectively to establish facts and support decision-making. Work with relevant partners and agencies to ensure investigations are completed to a high standard.
- Disciplinary & Regulatory Processes: Support the administration and progression of disciplinary cases in line with Basketball England and GB regulations and required timeframes. Contribute to hearings, appeals and case resolution processes as required. Work collaboratively with internal colleagues to ensure alignment between safeguarding, integrity and disciplinary outcomes. Ensure a fair, consistent and unbiased approach to all disciplinary and regulatory processes.
- Governance, Risk & Continuous Improvement: Monitor case trends and risk areas to inform improvements to policy, practice and the wider integrity framework. Contribute to internal reporting for senior leadership, Board and relevant committees. Support the ongoing development of a consistent and coordinated integrity approach across Basketball England and GB Basketball programmes. Ensure alignment with external partners and national best practice in safeguarding and integrity.
- Relationship Management: Build strong relationships with internal teams to support consistent delivery of safeguarding and integrity standards. Work with external stakeholders including statutory agencies, safeguarding partners and sport integrity bodies. Act as a trusted point of contact for clubs, leagues and stakeholders regarding concerns and integrity matters.

Role Requirements
- Qualifications: Degree level qualification or equivalent experience in a relevant field. Level 2 Safeguarding qualification (or equivalent) essential.
- Experience: Demonstrable experience of safeguarding and child protection, including managing concerns and working with partner agencies. Complaints handling and case management, managing cases from initial report through to resolution. Conducting investigations, including evidence gathering, interviews and report writing. Working with policies, procedures and regulatory frameworks. Managing sensitive and confidential information in complex environments. Building relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including volunteers and external partners. Managing escalated concerns and challenging situations.
- Personal Skills: Confident with a high degree of self‑motivation, self‑awareness and initiative. Excellent mental agility with the ability to use own initiative to self‑organise, plan and work effectively, taking account of changing and competing priorities. Able to work with confidential material, complaints and safeguarding matters calmly and efficiently. Excellent ability to motivate and work collaboratively, demonstrating behaviours that contribute to effective teamwork. Excellent ability to anticipate issues, problem‑solve, manage ambiguity and make sound judgements on sensitive and complex matters. High level of attention to detail and personal organisation to ensure prioritisation, time management and high‑quality outputs. Excellent ability to demonstrate high levels of customer service when managing complaints and stakeholder queries. Able to maintain the highest ethical standards for confidentiality, fairness, transparency, and equality.
- Technical Skills: Experience of conducting interviews in sensitive contexts (including safeguarding) is desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels and manage sensitive conversations. Excellent written communication, report writing and presentation skills.
