PURPOSE
The Events & Competitions Officer will coordinate and lead the delivery of all Basketball England events, including but not limited to the National Basketball League Finals, Schools and Academy League Finals, and 3×3 tournaments. The role plays a key part in ensuring events are delivered to a high standard and contribute to the growth and profile of the game.
In addition, the postholder will support the day-to-day operations of Basketball England competitions during busy periods, as well as wider operational administration across a busy department responsible for leagues, competitions, and membership.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Event Management
- Lead on delivery pre-event, on the day and post-event, solving operational issues at speed where required.
Event Development
- Implement and execute the Basketball England Events programme delivery, overseeing the portfolio of events, improving the scale and reach of events to grow attendances and business revenue.
Performance Management
- Lead and coordinate the evaluation of all events and associated support products, services and activities and support the data management and analysis of these activities so performance can be continually assessed and improved
Game Management
- Provide basketball game administration on a day-to-day basis which covers all aspects of membership and competitions and fixture management, for various leagues and competitions under Basketball England jurisdiction.
Relationship Management
- To communicate effectively with key stakeholders in the game relating to events plus club administrators, players, coaches, officials and other volunteers in the game.
OPERATIONAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Administrative Services
- Provide daily efficient and effective administration for event delivery and the organisation where required. This includes being accessible on email and phone calls throughout the day.
Project Coordination
- Lead and coordinate the event project from concept through to design and implementation, to deliver the required outcomes of the events.
Decision-Making
- Ability to make appropriate key event operational decisions to meet the programme objectives, in liaison with departmental colleagues and Senior Manager for Leagues and Competitions.
Customer Service
- Lead and set the standard for consistent and excellent experiences for participants and spectators throughout all levels of the game and deliver to high standards and in line with all Basketball England policies.
Relationship Coordination
- Be the accountable lead for coordinating relationships with both internal staff and designated external partners involved in the delivery of Basketball England programmes and services, ensuring good communication and project management principles are applied.
Communications
- Delivery of consistent, tailored, frequent key messages in all internal and external communications across all partners, ensuring a one-team approach to delivery and a positive impact on our customers.
Budget Coordination
- Accountable for monitoring and adjustment of all related event budgets to support effective delivery and prioritisation of resources to hit agreed budget with updates regularly to the Senior Delivery Manager.
Governance, Risk & Compliance
- Abide by all of Basketball England’s rules, regulations and policies (including but not limited to: Equal Opportunities & Equity Policy; Safeguarding Policy; Code of Ethics & Conduct; Anti-Doping, Anti Betting, Anti-Corruption and Confidentiality).
Project Administration Delivery
- Deliver on time, administrative projects where required.
Operational Processes, Systems & Tools
- Ensure efficient and effective services internally and externally. for leagues, competition and events.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications:
A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent compensating work experience.
Experience:
Demonstrable experience of:
- Event Delivery: Experience of designing and managing events, ideally of a sporting nature, aligned to specific goals and targets.
- Project Coordination: Planning and supporting large projects with a track record in both setting and delivering objectives and targets.
- Relationship Management: Experience of building trust and strong relationships with a range of stakeholders internally and externally at all levels, especially volunteers, and the ability to deal with disputes and complaints accurately.
- Evaluation of Events and Programmes: Experience of evaluation and data analysis of events or programmes.
- Game Management: previous experience with daily league, competition, and event administration.
- Membership Licencing: A good understanding of BE competitions, club, coach, official and player licencing, eligibility.
- Customer Service: Excellent communication skills and can communicate effectively through email and on telephone conversations.
- Policy Adherence: Previous experience of following competition rules and regulations. Understands the importance of rules and regulations, governance and policy adherence.

Technical Skills:
- Advanced ICT: Significant advanced expertise in the use of Microsoft packages (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other related ICT software.
- Numeracy & Literacy: Excellent numeracy, literacy, spelling and presentation in typewritten and other work.
