About Basis

Basis is a nonprofit applied AI research organization with two mutually reinforcing goals. The first is to understand and build intelligence. This means to establish the mathematical principles of what it means to reason, to learn, to make decisions, to understand, and to explain; and to construct software that implements these principles. The second is to advance society's ability to solve intractable problems. This means expanding the scale, complexity, and breadth of problems that we can solve today, and even more importantly, accelerating our ability to solve problems in the future. To achieve these goals, we're building both a new technological foundation that draws inspiration from how humans reason, and a new kind of collaborative organization that puts human values first.

About the Role

GTM Leads at Basis drive our international expansion by building and converting commercial pipelines, localizing strategic relationships, and translating research capabilities into customer value. This role focuses specifically on developing UK/EU markets while supporting US growth.

We are looking for people who combine entrepreneurial vision with commercial rigor. The ideal candidate has founded or operated in early-stage ventures, understands technical innovation deeply enough to articulate its value, and thrives at the intersection of research and commercial application. You will discover new verticals, structure complex partnerships, and flag operational needs as Basis scales.

We expect you to:

  • Have demonstrated ability to build and convert commercial pipelines in technical domains. This could be evidenced by venture associate experience, business development roles at deep tech companies, or founder experience scaling startups internationally.
  • Possess sufficient technical depth to engage credibly with both AI researchers and enterprise customers. You should understand machine learning concepts, probabilistic programming, and AI capabilities well enough to translate technical features into business value propositions.
  • Bring international market development experience, particularly in UK/EU markets. You understand regional differences in business culture, regulatory environments (such as the EU AI Act), and partnership dynamics across multiple countries.
  • Excel at relationship building with diverse stakeholders including venture capitalists, cloud partners, system integrators, academic institutions, and government agencies.
  • Have experience with complex deal structuring, including design partnerships, research collaborations, contract negotiations, and proposal development for sophisticated technical offerings.
  • Progress with a high degree of autonomy and under uncertainty. You can identify opportunities, structure approaches, and execute without extensive direction in ambiguous environments.
  • Be excited about advancing societal capability to solve intractable problems through AI research that prioritises rigor, safety, and human value.

Responsibilities:

  • Discover and develop new commercial opportunities across industries and geographies, with primary focus on building UK/EU pipeline and supporting US market expansion.
  • Conduct customer discovery conversations to understand domain challenges, validate problem-solution fit, and translate needs into technical requirements that inform Basis research directions.
  • Structure and negotiate partnerships including design partnerships, cloud provider collaborations, system integrator relationships, and academic/corporate research agreements.
  • Develop compelling commercial materials including proposals, case studies, and pitch decks that articulate Basis capabilities and differentiation.
  • Convert pipeline into revenue by managing the full sales cycle from initial contact through contract closure, working closely with legal, finance, and technical teams.
  • Build localized presence and relationships in UK/EU markets, identifying potential needs for international entity setup and operational infrastructure.
  • Identify and flag operational needs that arise from commercial activities, such as compliance requirements, delivery capabilities, or resource constraints.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers to ensure commercial opportunities align with technical capabilities and research directions, preventing overpromising while maximizing impact.
  • Contribute to Basis culture and strategic direction, bringing market intelligence that informs product roadmap, research priorities, and organizational growth.

Role Details

Exceptional candidates who may not meet all of the following criteria are still encouraged to apply.

  • FT/PT: Full-time.
  • In-person Policy: We are in the office four days a week. Be prepared to travel regularly to UK/EU markets and attend multi-day Basis-wide in-person events.
  • Location: London (preferred).
  • Salary range: Competitive salary.
