About this role

Institute of Applied Sciences – Fixed Term contract until July 2024 (subject to further funding may be extended)

We are looking for someone to join our existing team of researchers from within the Institute of Applied Sciences to cover a period of maternity leave. The successful post holder will primarily work with the existing team and engage with colleagues at the University and external stakeholders and customers.

Tasks undertaken will include the co-ordination of applied exercise science research, provide support to field studies, perform data analysis, and undertake administrative tasks to support literature reviews and commercial activities. There will be travel and overnight stays away from home required, primarily in the UK and possibly overseas. There will also be a requirement to support the delivery of lectures, seminars and practical classes within the Institute of Applied Sciences and contribute to the supervision of undergraduate and post graduate research projects. The contract is until the 31st July 2024 in the first instance but may be extended.

About you

The successful applicant will have at least MSc or MRes in applied sport or exercise science (any discipline) and/or is completing or has recently finished a PhD; have knowledge of applied data collection techniques; and ideally have experience of collecting data in the field. Although you are not required to have experience in working with personnel in physically demanding occupations, it would be advantageous. However, you should have a background in sports and exercise science or similar disciplines. You will have experience in conducting data collection for projects, providing support to field studies, performing data analysis, conducting literature reviews and supporting commercial activities and presentations.

About the team

The research team are part of the Occupational Performance Research Group (OPRG) at the University of Chichester which delivers projects for the UK Armed Forces, emergency services and private sector. In addition to your salary we offer a competitive reward package with a range of staff benefits and discounts which include:

  • Defined Benefit pension scheme via our provider the Teachers’ Pension Scheme. Your own monthly contributions are enhanced with employer contributions and a substantial automatic lump sum life cover scheme enhancement.
  • A paid closure period over the Christmas break is in addition to our generous holiday allowance of 35 days pro rata with bank holidays too and an occupational sickness scheme.
  • There’s also an on-site gym; a cycle purchase salary sacrifice scheme; subsidised bus travel between our Bognor and Chichester campuses and Chichester town centre; 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme to support our staff and extensive personal / professional training opportunities throughout the year.

Given the nature of the work you will be required to undergo National Security Vetting to achieve a minimum of Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) clearance in order to continue working on the project, and if required by the MOD achieve Security Cleared (SC) status.
