Overview
The main duties include technical support for research & teaching in the recently modernised Institute of Sport and maintaining Data and Health & Safety compliance.
Responsibilities
You will be responsible for assisting in the preparation, maintenance and running of the laboratories as well as supporting staff and students who use them. This will include housekeeping duties to support laboratory activities.
There will also be a need to assist with stock control of consumables and reporting of maintenance issues for equipment.
Qualifications
You must have knowledge/experience of sport science equipment and techniques, be able to work in a team and autonomously and possess good communication skills. Knowledge of current Health and Safety legislation, including waste management, is desirable for this role, as well as the ability to work to deadlines.
You will be flexible to team and workload requirements and have a committed approach to issues relating to equality and diversity.
Legal Requirements
This post is exempt under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 as amended. The University requires that the successful applicant who is offered employment will be subject to a criminal record check from the Disclosure and Barring Service before the appointment is confirmed. An Enhanced Disclosure will be required, and this will include details of cautions, reprimands or final warnings, as well as convictions. The University of Hertfordshire complies with the ‘Code of Practice for Registered Persons and other recipients of Disclosure Information’.
Overseas Applicants
Successful applicants who have lived outside the UK for 12 months or more (whether continuously or in total), in the last 10 years, will be required to produce a ‘Certificate of Good Character/Conduct’ from each of those countries. Educated with a minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4/C or above, including Maths and English, or equivalent, or proven experience.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary: UH4 £25,804 pa to £28,778 pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience
- Annual Leave: 25 days plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days, including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year
The Institute of Sport is now housed in a recently modernised building situated on the De Haviland campus of the University of Hertfordshire. It is located adjacent to the Herts Sport Village and collaborates with them for the option to share resources. The building has dedicated CASES accredited laboratories, such as BioMechanics housing a GRAIL system, Physiology Laboratories, Sports Therapy and Consultancy. The facility attracts athletes and sports people from all levels in the surrounding area, which gives opportunities to support the testing of them.
