As a Participation & Programmes Officer, you will play

a crucial role in fostering growth and engagement

within youth, schools, clubs, universities, and

communities. This multifaceted position requires a

proactive individual with a passion for community

development and a commitment to enhancing

participation in sports. The successful candidate

will work to strengthen relationships, implement

development initiatives, and contribute to the overall, expect from working in a sports organisation

Main Tasks & Responsibilities

  1. Youth and Schools Engagement
  • Develop and implement programmes to engage

youth in sports and foster partnerships with

schools.

  • Facilitate sports-related activities and events to

promote active participation among young people..

  1. Club and University Relations
  • Cultivate relationships with local clubs and

universities to encourage collaboration and

participation in sports programs.

  • Support the development of clubs and university

level sports initiatives.

  1. Community Outreach
  • Engage with local communities to identify

opportunities for sports development.

  • Facilitate community events and initiatives to

promote inclusivity and physical activity.

  1. Programme Development
  • Contribute to the design and execution of sports

development programmes across various sectors.

  • Tailor initiatives to align with the specific needs and

demographics of each target group.

Key Relationships

The postholder will be expected to connect BSUK’s

work with the efforts of the National Governing

Bodies: the British Softball Federation, the British

Baseball Federation; with the Youth Sport Trust,

BUCS and School Sports Coordinators; Major

League Baseball; local authorities and Active Sports

Partnerships; and with the Board, Senior Leadership

Team and wider staff., * Oversee the development and delivery of

participation programmes that will create

a long lasting and meaningful legacy from the

London Series.

  • Provide event support to a wide range of activities

around the London Stadium, across London and

nationally where necessary.

  • Manage the volunteer engagement programme

related to the staging of the London Series games.

  • Develop and implement a strategy for retention

across the Legacy initiatives, creating meaningful

links between projects and clear pathways for

participation and embedding the programmes into

the UK baseball and softball landscape.

Programme Management

The role will lead the development and delivery of

several targeted programmes. These will include:

  • Develop and implement programmes to engage

youth in sports and foster partnerships with schools

(i.e. First Pitch and Secondary schools programme)

  • Engage with local communities to identify

opportunities for sports development (i.e.

Community Outreach)

  • Create meaningful links between the MLB London

Series and its programmes with the community

of baseball and softball Clubs and Leagues (i.e.

Education to Club Pathways and Event Integration

  • 2026 only)

  • Working closely with MLB on implementation and

delivery of MLB First Pitch in primary schools

  • Oversee Education to Club pathways, creating

lasting links between First Pitch schools and local

clubs and leagues

  • Develop and manage the development and

implementation a Secondary Schools baseball or

softball offer

  • Oversee the development and implementation of

baseball and softball engagement opportunities

for young people in the community through sport

development partners

  • Develop and implement a strategy for retaining

and transitioning Legacy volunteers and London

Series volunteers into regular baseball community

volunteers

  • Assist with Legacy programme data monitoring,

reporting and budget management, in consultation

with the BSUK development team and MLB

counterpart.

Additional responsibilities

as a member of staff

As a member of the staff team, the role will be

expected to be prepared to contribute across

a wide range of activities, accepting collective

and individual responsibility, where needed and

necessary. At times, this may include becoming

involved with regional work, directly delivering

development or sports activities or working

upwards to shape the strategic direction of

the organisation. All staff are expected to

be organised and administratively sound,

assisting others where necessary.
