Peri-operative and Critical Care Division

Barts Health NHS Trust is one of UK\’s top teaching hospitals, in the rapidly growing North East of London where through a programme of unprecedented investment Britain\’s biggest hospital aims to improve services and most of the needs of our local population. We are currently seeking a motivated Trust Grade Doctor to work in our ENT Department. The post is for 12 months fixed term.

The ENT service provides a comprehensive range of emergency and elective services to the local community in addition to acting as a referral centre for more complex procedures and tertiary referrals.The service has excellent links with Audiology, Speech and Language therapy and Oncology. Advanced facilities and expertise are available including head and neck surgery, facial plastics and rhinology, voice clinics, paediatric airway and otology.Applicants must have full GMC registration with a license to practice. Main duties of the job

Care of Inpatients – Reviewing patients on wards

Attending Theatre

Reviewing patients in Accident and Emergency

Support Pre-admission Clinics.

The rota is 1.8 weeks with prospective internal cover for annual leave and study leave. The rota is European Working Time Directive

Compliant.

Contribute to teaching, audit, and research.

Job responsibilities

The current base for the Department of Otolaryngology is currently at The Royal London hospital with Head and Neck Cancer surgery performed at UCLH.

The Outpatient Department is well stocked with outpatient microscopes, including video monitors, and rigid & flexible endoscopes. The adult inpatient wards are on this site, as is the Short Stay ward. There is high level nursing care for complex head & neck patients. The In-patient theatres provide support for all aspects of modern otolaryngological practice. The Department of Audiology is based at the Whitechapel site. In addition there is collaboration with the Departments of Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery and Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

Qualification

  • MB BS
  • MRCS Part 1 & 2 DOHNS

Knowledge

  • Basic knowledge of ENT conditions and emergency management
  • Previous experience of managing ENT emergencies

Prior Experience

  • Completion of FY1 and FY2 year.
  • Less than two years\’ experience in ENT.
  • Previous ENT experience and experience in other surgical specialities.
  • Previous participation in Audit Projects

Academic Achievements

  • Research/Publications in ENT and related specialties

Personal Skills

  • Can communicate well in English
  • Good interpersonal skills
