We are looking for a midwife who has a specialist interest in Maternal Medicine. The current post holder is looking to reduce their working hours, so we wish to recruit an additional member to the Maternal Medicine team. This is a part-time role for one day a week (Wednesday). In conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for providing midwifery care to pregnant women and birthing people with complex medical conditions. The post holder is expected to facilitate evidence-based informed choice, as well as respect for their decision at every stage of the pregnancy regardless of medical needs. The successful post holder will provide continuity of care throughout the antenatal period and work alongside varied teams from the obstetric, medical, anaesthetic, and midwifery departments. The post holder will work within the framework of the NMC Midwives Rules and Standards and the Barts Health NHS Trust Guidelines and Policies.

Main duties of the job include:

  • Providing midwifery care to pregnant women and birthing people with complex medical conditions.
  • Facilitating evidence-based informed choice and respecting decisions at every stage of pregnancy.
  • Providing continuity of care throughout the antenatal period.
  • Working alongside varied teams from obstetric, medical, anaesthetic, and midwifery departments.

Person specification includes:

  • NMC Registered Midwife
  • Completion of a preceptorship programme or equivalent, with evidence of working in a variety of settings
  • Acute illness management trained
  • Enhanced maternal care/high dependency trained non-medical prescriber
  • Practice Supervisor/Assessor - Post registration qualifications or MSc

Experience required:

  • Experience in caring for high-risk service users.
  • Evidence of applying current research to practice.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Able to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Able to use your own initiative.
  • Able to manage sensitive or difficult situations effectively.
  • IT skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint.
