We are looking for to appoint a Senior Clinical Fellow at post CCT level in HPB Surgery. The post will be based at the Royal London Hospital and is for a period of 12 months in the first instance, extendable to 12 months, to start in April 2026. The Royal London Hospital is a tertiary referral centre for HPB Surgery and the post offers excellent opportunities for surgical trainees to gain experience in basic and complex procedures.The post is not formally approved by the Deanery for higher surgical training, but the workload will be similar to that of a HST., This position offers support and advanced training in HPB Surgery and possible experience as consultant general surgery on call (to be determined at interview).
The HPB Surgery Unit at Barts and the London NHS Trust is based at the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. The other sites within the Trust are St Bartholomew\’s Hospital in Smithfield, Newham Hospital in Plaistow and Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone.
The team consists of 5 consultant surgeons (Mr Deepak Hariharan (Clinical Lead HPB), Mr Sivasanker Masillamany (Locum), Mr Hemant Kocher, Mr Ajit Abraham and Mr Vincent Yip along side, 3-5 SpR-grade trainees in addition to this post, 2-3 SHO-grade trainees, 3 FYIs, 3 Nurse Specialists, 2 MDT Co-Ordinator and 2 patient pathway co-ordinators. The workload covers all aspects of HPB Surgery excluding liver transplantation.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Gain hands-on operating experience in complex, major HPB surgical procedures.
Develop advanced laparoscopic / robotic skills.
Develop an understanding of management of traumatic injuries of the liver and pancreas.
Develop an understanding of HPB radiology and interventional radiology procedures (including radiofrequency ablation, chemoembolization, intra-operative ultrasound, laparoscopic ultrasound).
Develop leadership qualities, management skills and communication skills requisite for a consultant position. Particular emphasis will be placed on leading the MDT, coordination of admissions and discharges and running the Journal Club
