Job overview We offer an exciting opportunity in the Clinical Biochemistry department within the NHS East and Southeast London Pathology Partnership (ESEL). This new organisation, jointly owned by Barts Health NHS Trust, Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust, operates with its own governance framework and board. The Pathology Partnership, a major NHS pathology provider, integrates teams from these trusts to deliver high-quality, cost-effective services. The Clinical Biochemistry service spans seven hospital laboratories, centered at The Royal London Hospital, a busy trauma center supporting London Air Ambulance, connected to essential service labs at partner sites including St. Bartholomew, Whipps Cross, Newham, Homerton, Lewisham, and Queens Elizabeth Hospitals. Main duties of the job We seek a team player with a positive attitude, flexible approach, and commitment to supporting clinical services and patient needs, including participation in extended day, weekend, and bank holiday rosters. This is a rotational post where employees work across different laboratories, initially at Newham Hospital. The \’base\’ laboratory may change. The successful Band 6 candidate MUST be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist and hold one of the following: CPSM Log book (Clinical Biochemistry) if qualified before 2003, or Registration portfolio IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2003-2004) and Diploma in Biomedical Science IBMS (Blood Sciences 2005), or Specialist Diploma IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry from 2005 onwards). Compliance with these criteria is mandatory and must be clearly documented in the application. Working for our organisation The NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership provides services to three trusts, with the Royal London Hospital as the main hub and essential service labs at other sites. The partnership has a total operating cost of approximately £126m annually and employs around 822 staff. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Applicants must hold HCPC registration and have completed an IBMS Specialist Diploma (or CPSM log book) in Clinical Biochemistry. A minimum of 2 years’ post-registration experience in an acute hospital setting, with evidence of CPD, is required. Candidates without the IBMS Specialist Diploma may be considered under an Annex 21 contract, with a requirement to complete the diploma within 2 years, supported by training.
