Job overview

We are searching for a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist to join the perfusion team. The successful candidate will work with colleagues at the new Barts Heart Centre. The employing trust will be Barts Health NHS Trust.

Alongside our extensive adult surgery programme, we have a hybrid theatre for endovascular procedures. As a member of the perfusion team you will play a significant role in developing and growing our specialist clinical services. We have a strong history of training and education at Barts, and we are developing a perfusion education faculty to support all of our developing teams across the full range of clinical specialties.

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Perfusion Scientist to join our progressive department. As an expert and autonomous practitioner, you will take a developmental role providing clinical and professional perfusion services to the multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be able to organise facilities and staff on site to enable the service to achieve our clinical and professional goals.

EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria

• Full accreditation with SOPGBI
• Full registration with COPGBI
• MSc in Perfusion Science

Desirable criteria

• Qualifications in management
• Qualifications in Education
• Qualifications in patient safety
• Leadership course

SKILLS/ ABILITIES

Essential criteria

• Have strong clinical skills across a range of perfusion techniques
• Good organisational skills
• Ability to work under own initiative
• Good written, verbal and presentation skills

Desirable criteria

• Excellent communication skills

Experience

Essential criteria

• Experience of routine and specialist perfusion techniques
• Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team

Desirable criteria

• Clinical Perfusionist including some experience with management issues 2-5 years

Knowledge

Essential criteria

• Up to date with latest developments in clinical practice
• Support and contribute to the development of protocols for all activities undertaken by the perfusion department
• Full knowledge of hazards of bypass and fully equipped to manage emergency situations
• Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge across a range of perfusion practice
