Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated senior Clinical Scientist to become Deputy Head of the Magnetic Resonance and Ultrasound (MR and U/S) Physics Team at Barts Health. We are looking for a Scientist working as an MR Safety Expert (MRSE), with previous experience in ultrasound (U/S) and an interest in developing governance for both MRI and U/S. We are committed to providing our patients with outstanding care and seek a clinical scientist who shares this vision.

The MRI and US team is a friendly and dedicated group engaged with Imaging across the organisation to ensure the safety of staff, patients and visitors. The team is involved with all aspects of the MRI equipment life cycle and supports U/S scanners (~400 items). There is a strong commitment to innovation, research and development with existing links to Queen Mary University, King’s College Hospital and other Academic Trusts in the London Region.

The post holder will aid the Head in the leadership of the Magnetic Resonance (MR) and Ultrasound (U/S) Physics team and provide MR and U/S Physics services to the Trust.

Responsibilities

  • Aid the Head in leadership of the MR and U/S Physics team.
  • Assist in the provision of MR and U/S Physics services to the Trust and management of the associated staff.
  • Provide scientific and technical support to all MRI and U/S systems within the Trust (St Bartholomew Hospital, Royal London Hospital, Whipps Cross, Newham University Hospital and Mile End CDC) and any additional systems under external contract.
  • Support MRI and U/S research in the Trust; undertake collaborative work with associated academic institutions when required.
  • Collaborate with consultant medical practitioners and leading academics to implement innovative leading-edge clinical MR methods and U/S diagnostic techniques.
  • Initiate and provide high-quality teaching and training of junior clinical scientists within national training programs; support the training of Trust staff in the safe use of MRI systems.
  • Act as a MR Safety Expert (MRSE) to the Trust, and be named MRSE for particular trust sites.
  • Support MRI and U/S research and participate in collaborations as required.
