Overview

The post holder will rotate between maternity departments to fulfil shift patterns, cross-cover, and fill gaps as required. At reception level, the post holder will ensure patients are appropriately admitted and discharged on CRS, make appropriate appointments, and ensure patient demographics are accurate and up to date. Responsibility includes ensuring all phone calls are answered and activities kept up to date.

Main duties

  • Provide administrative and clerical support to all areas of the maternity department.
  • Deliver and coordinate an effective administrative and reception service to Maternity Department.
  • Support development of Roles & Responsibilities with ward clerks and receptionists within Maternity service.
  • Be flexible and able to cross cover in patient areas.
  • Participate in training as appropriate to this post, with support from line manager.
  • Provide cross-cover administration support within the maternity teams.
  • Carry out duties consistent with the post as required by the line manager.
  • Assist clinical staff to ensure smooth running of the antenatal clinic environment, reporting issues impacting administrative service delivery in a timely manner to the antenatal team leader.
  • Answer the telephone according to trust policy and take messages as required.
  • Inform appropriate staff of potential security risks and report actual security incidents.
  • Comply with trust policies and procedures, particularly those associated with overseas visitors and private patients.
  • Train new members of staff where appropriate.

There are various opportunities for experienced Administrators to work within the Maternity team at Barts Health NHS Trust. This position is based within the Women’s and Children’s Division at Newham University Hospital, a busy and dynamic service focused on patient-centered care. The successful candidate will require excellent communication and organizational skills and a positive can-do attitude, preferably with previous administrative experience. NHS experience in a similar setting and familiarity with Trust systems such as Cerner Millennium (CRS) are desirable.
