Overview

Whipps Cross University Hospital is looking to recruit a Maternity Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work in the Delivery Suite at Whipps Cross. This post is open to individuals who are both experienced Maternity Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care. Individuals that are new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Routine maternal observations (e.g. monitoring vital signs)
  • Undertaking limited range of delegated clinical care duties (taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility
  • Supporting patients’ and newborn nutritional and hydration needs
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients.

Role details and requirements

An excellent communicator, they have experience of working in a team, to ensure the comfort, wellbeing and safety of our patients. The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends. The post holder will be an integral part of the midwifery team actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies though training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.

Progression and salary

This post attracts individuals who are new to care. You will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within 6 months upon successful completion of all required competencies; until then, you will be placed at a Band 2 salary.
