Locum Consultant: General internal Medicine, Diabetes and Endocrinology – fixed term 1 year
We are looking for two enthusiastic colleagues to join our dynamic service within Barts Health NHS Trust. This reflects one new post and one replacement post based at Newham University Hospital for a maximum of 10 PAs (programmed activities) for one year with an expectation that the roles will be advertised as substantive posts at the end of this period. Newham University Hospital (NUH) is a district general hospital with a major undergraduate teaching role, serving one of the youngest and most ethnically diverse populations in the UK. The hospital serves a multicultural population of 355 000 with a high prevalence of diabetes (8.5%). There is a purpose- built diabetes centre located in East Ham with diabetes outpatient facilities co located with the community Type 2 Diabetes Specialist Nurse service provided by the East London Foundation Trust and onsite podiatry and X ray.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the award- winning Diabetes and Endocrinology team at a time of significant investment and service expansion. The post includes general medicine, endocrinology and diabetes management in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Full details of the post are available within the job description.
Main duties of the job
Clinical
Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and subspecialty clinics (eg foot / antenatal / young adult diabetes)
Endocrinology outpatient clinics
Outpatient investigation and management of common endocrine disorders
Inpatient management of endocrine and diabetes emergencies
Management of common GIM emergencies and conditions
Leading and supervising the inpatient ward rounds
Risk and Governance
Commitment to engagement in regular audit, quality improvement and departmental Governance processes
Education and Training
Engagement in clinical and educational supervision of trainees if appropriate (as this is a locum post), teaching medical students attached to the team and providing adhoc teaching and training for other members of the MDT and department
Personal development
Commitment to maintaining personal CPD
Engagement with Trust requirements for appraisal and revalidation
