Overview
Locum Consultant Cardiac Surgeon with an interest in Adult Congenital Surgery (10 Programmed Activities). Applications are invited for the above post based at the Barts Heart Centre, Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful applicant will be joining a team of 2 surgical GUCH consultants and 15 adult surgeons. Applicants should have completed subspecialist training in surgical congenital heart disease and cardiac surgery. Applicants will be expected to participate in a 1:8 on-call rota for the GUCH and aortic service and will also provide a consult service for GUCH inpatients.
Responsibilities
- Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
- Leadership, development and organisation of the services in charge in line with the Trust\’s business plans. Liaison and communication with the Clinical Director, General Manager and the CAG Group Director.
- Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.
- Provide GUCH surgery together with consultant colleagues.
- Deliver and further develop a new Virtual Ward service using an established digital platform and expand its usage to referring hospitals.
- Enhance and further develop a world GUCH service.
- Participate in the multidisciplinary Inherited Cardiovascular Disease team, contributing to the development of complex treatments, innovations and research.
- Undertake 2 days of operating, flexibly.
- Provide consultant-level clinical responsibilities in patient care, including participation in the Consultant of the Week rota (1 in 19 weeks).
- Clinic responsibilities: once per week with new and follow-up outpatients.
- Provide diagnosis and treatment of patients in hospitals and clinics within the Trust; deliver evidence-based care for all patients.
- Liaise effectively and in a timely manner with colleagues, managers, general practitioners, community services and all healthcare agencies.
- Maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work, working closely with existing post-holders.
- Participate fully in the management of the department and liaise with the general manager, the Clinical and CAG Group Director and management team.
Essential Qualifications
- MRCP or equivalent.
- GMC-registered with a license to practice and hold specialist registration.
