An exciting opportunity has arisen in Clinical Biochemistry within the NHS East and South East London Pathology Partnership (ESEL). The successful candidate will be based at Royal London Hospital.
Main Duties
The role promotes continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all areas of Biochemistry at the Royal London Hospital site, whilst working in collaboration with all sites across the Pathology Partnership.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate MUST be registered with the HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist and hold an MSc in Biomedical Science or IBMS Special Examination (Fellowship). Candidates working towards their MSc and willing to work towards the Band 7 role competencies may be considered. Upon completion and verification of the MSc qualification, the candidate may be eligible for transition to a permanent position, subject to all other criteria and developmental milestones.

Person Specification
Qualifications
- Registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Hold one of the following: CPSM Log book (Clinical Biochemistry) if qualified before 2003; Registration portfolio IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2003-2004) and Diploma in Biomedical Science IBMS (Blood Sciences 2005); Specialist Diploma IBMS (Clinical Biochemistry 2005 onwards); or MSc Biomedical Science or equivalent qualification at MSc level or IBMS Fellowship in Clinical Biochemistry.
Experience
- Post‑HCPC registration experience working in a busy, acute medical clinical chemistry laboratory environment.
- Experience in LCMS section.
- Ability to cope with competing priorities and respond to change.
- Familiarity with a variety of diagnostics techniques in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Experience using a computerised laboratory information system and evaluating authenticity of patient results.
- Basic operator maintenance on equipment such as OC8000, OC8100, OP701, OSM 3320, D‑100, Xevo TQ‑XS, Xevo TQ‑S Micro, TECAN Freedom EVO‑2, OC‑Sensor Pledia, AQT90, ABL90 Flex, ABL800 series, Clinitek Status, i‑Stat1, i‑Stat Alinity, Freestyle Precision Pro, AccuChek Informa II, DCA Vantage.
- Experience with IT systems such as WinPath Enterprise, Infinity (Cobas Middleware), Cobas Inventory Management, Q‑Pulse, AQURE.
Knowledge
- Health & Safety legislation and procedures.
- Specialist knowledge in Clinical Biochemistry.
- Quality management systems and UKAS standards.
- LCMS troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of current training and career progression requirements.

- Competent in routine laboratory techniques and troubleshooting.
- Ability to analyse, interpret and present routine data/results.
- Working knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet packages.
