Job overview
To support the opening of the new Community Diagnostics Centre at Mile End Hospital in mid-2025, an opportunity has arisen for an Imaging Assistant to join the Barts Heart Centre Cardiac Imaging Team, offering support within the Cardiac CT service provision networked from the service at St Bartholomew’s Hospital. The launch of the CDC will ensure patients have access to specialised services within a community setting, whilst taking advantage of close links with the service at Bart’s Heart Centre.
You will be working as part of our friendly team of dedicated and hardworking Cardiac Radiographers, Cardiologists, Radiologists and support workers within the CDC and in collaboration with the Cardiac Imaging service at St Bart’s NHS Trust.
We are looking for a friendly team member who is able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills along with the ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and work using their own initiative, whilst providing high quality, efficient and effective care to our patients.
The job role involves pre-scan preparation of the patient to include cannulation and accurate completion of safety checks, support of the patient through the scanning pathway and assisting with post scan recovery and aftercare. Coordination of flow of outpatients, inpatients and inter hospital transfer patients through the department also forms a vital aspect of the job role.
Role extension and training and education are actively supported.
The service at the CDC is based on a 7 day a week, 12 hours a day model offering flexible access to patients from around London and beyond.
Main duties of the job
The aim of this role is to assist and provide support for clinical staff in the department to ensure the service delivers its day-to-day operations efficiently and effectively.
The suitable candidate would work in such a way that they would provide a reliable and timely patient pathway through the department to ensure maximisation of capacity and activity. One of the key responsibilities of this role is to prepare patients for their scans and undertake intravenous cannulation procedures as per the agreed local protocols and guidelines, making sure that patients receive high standards of individualised and holistic continuity of care whilst in the department. To also take a major role in the timely provision of clean and equipped patient examinations areas and maintain a safe, healthy and hygienic environment.
This will be done at the Community Diagnostics Centre (CDC) at Mile End.
