Overview

The Royal London Hospital is looking to recruit a Healthcare Support Worker (HCA) Band 3 who will work within the children’s department on ward 7F Surgical and Trauma at The Royal London. This post is open to individuals who are both experienced Healthcare Support Workers or those new to care. Individuals that are new to care will receive support to complete the Band 3 competencies and progress into a Band 3 role within six months upon successful completion of all required competencies.

We are looking for compassionate and motivated individuals who are passionate about delivering high-quality, person-centred care in a hospital setting. The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team, actively taking part in meeting the needs of patients and of the service in accordance with agreed standards under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.

The post holder will work within Ward 7F Surgical and Trauma unit. This is a versatile and dynamic service, providing high quality holistic care with an emphasis on working in partnership with the children and their families. The Children’s Enhanced Monitoring Bay is also integral to this unit, providing you with the opportunity to work in both units. This exposure to both units will enable you to gain a wealth of experience in a variety of conditions, including emergency care. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a large Multidisciplinary Team.

Responsibilities

  • Patient observations (e.g., monitoring vital signs)
  • Assisting with personal care and mobility
  • Supporting patients’ nutritional and hydration needs
  • Undertaking limited range of delegated duties (e.g., taking blood pressure, recording ECG, MRSA screening)
  • Simple wound dressings
  • Strong teamworking and communication skills are essential to ensure the comfort, wellbeing, and safety of our patients

Role Requirements

The post holder will be required to work within a challenging clinical environment and may undertake shift work which may include nights and weekends. The post holder will be an integral part of the nursing team and will actively participate in meeting the needs of patients and the service under direct supervision of the registered nurse. The post holder will continue to develop essential competencies through training and practice to ensure safety and quality are the priority.
