The Education Academy within Bart\’s Health is expanding in response to increasing numbers of students and trainees. Our goal is to ensure excellent tuition and supervision, aligning with our Education Strategy. We aim to build an Education Fellow faculty comprising Specialty Teaching Fellows who contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate training and support Inter-professional Innovations.

Barts Health Simulation Service has four dedicated Simulation and Essential Clinical Skills Centres at Newham University Hospital, Whipps Cross University Hospital, St Bartholomew\’s, and the Royal London. These centres are innovative and award-winning, equipped with simulation and clinical skills teaching facilities, including Haptic Clinical Skills.

One post will be based at Royal London Hospital and the other at Whipps Cross University Hospital. The successful candidate will identify their clinical component, which may include AAU, Care of the Elderly, Respiratory, and other medical specialties.

Main duties of the job

The post involves developing educational opportunities for Internal Medical Trainees through various teaching modalities, including simulation-based training, clinical skills, lectures, teaching clinics, and bedside teaching. The post holder will collaborate across sites, support other education fellows, and facilitate simulation training for various specialties. All fellows are invited to join our Education Forum, which offers a structured development programme, and are encouraged to pursue a PG Cert in Education. Funding for ILM3 (Leadership & Management Course) is available for those interested.

The role also includes supporting undergraduate education and developing a personal development plan, with regular appraisals with clinical supervisors and the Simulation Lead Specialist. The post involves working closely with the Associate Director of Simulation to meet educational deliverables. The terms of employment follow the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales).

Qualifications

  • MBBS
  • ALS
  • MRCP
  • Higher Medical audit relevant to training stage (e.g., MRCP/FRCA)
  • Clinical background in GIM/Acute Medicine
  • Experience in delivering education, ideally inter-professionally
  • Evidence of clinical expertise and ability to work beyond traditional boundaries
  • Research involvement, publications, presentations
  • NHS Clinical experience
  • Foundation & Core Programme Completion
  • Basic educational theory knowledge
  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Ability to teach clinical and non-technical skills
  • Effective communication with multi-professional teams
  • Enthusiasm for quality and innovative education
  • Adaptability in teaching approaches
