We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Digital and Quality Midwife to join our busy Quality and Safety Team at RLH. You will support this team to progress the national digital agendas while driving digital transformation and data quality to ensure appropriate MSDS submissions.

As part of the Maternity Team, you will co-ordinate and provide information technology support and training. You will have responsibility for ensuring the accuracy of data within the service and work closely with staff to support inputting correct information electronically. You will be responsible for the preparation of the maternity dashboard and would incorporate producing monthly key performance indicator reports for dissemination, discussion, and data quality assurance.

Main duties of the job include assisting with the maternity digital transformation programme at the Royal London Hospital which will support health and care services to improve outcomes for pregnant women and address health inequalities. As an ambassador of the Midwifery profession, you will ensure clinical practice, supported by digital technology, meets professional standards.

This post has been created following the drive within the national maternity transformation programme for digital midwives to continue providing leadership, coordination, facilitation, evaluation, and improvement across local digital maternity work streams. The role will support the design and implementation of national digital programmes, oversee the tracking of progress against digital transformation plans and develop a networked approach to enable digital transformation.

The post holder will act as an autonomous, accountable practitioner working within the existing digital team and in collaboration with the wider multi-disciplinary team. They will be visible to staff and available to provide informatics support to midwives in their day-to-day settings.

Job responsibilities include an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role, and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience, and knowledge required.

  • Registered Midwife with current registration.
  • First level degree in related healthcare discipline or substantial experiential equivalence.
  • Undertaken basic qualifications in the use of computer packages such as the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and be proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel software.
  • Post-graduate management qualification and/or equivalent level of knowledge gained through extensive experience.
  • Previous IT or data quality experience.
  • Teaching qualification and/or recent teaching activity.
  • Recognised project management qualification such as Agile or PRINCE2.

Experience required includes:

  • Post registration midwifery experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with databases, data analysis, and coding.
  • Ability to work as part of the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to store data information safely and correctly.
  • Ability to provide formal teaching to colleagues.
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of learning activities and identify how it could be improved.
  • Good understanding of digital systems and advances to develop and manage electronic patient records.
  • Service development experience, delivering clinical quality improvements and successful service change.

Skills required include:

  • Problem solving and analytical skills relating to the identification and assessment of evidence required to support decision making.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, report writing, and investigation skills.
