We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Consultant Anaesthetist with a particular interest in ENT and Orthopaedics. We provide anaesthetic services across all our hospitals: The Royal London Hospital, Whipps Cross Hospital, Newham Hospital and St Bartholomew\’s Hospital (Bart\’s).
At the Royal London Hospital we provide: POA, Pain – acute and chronic, Trauma and orthopaedics, gynae-oncology, gynaecology, urology, HpB, colorectal, ENT, general and plastic surgery, neurosurgery, vascular, renal, maxillofacial, dental, paediatrics, obstetrics and interventional radiology.
Main duties of the job
This post is a substantive consultant post in Anaesthesia based at The Royal London Hospital the successful candidate may be asked to cover surgical lists at other sites across the Trust if required. The post holder will be an employee of Bart\’s Health and there may be future opportunities or requirements to work at one of the other hospitals in the Bart\’s Health group.
This is a general post with an interest in ENT and Orthopaedics for a consultant Anaesthetist. The appointee must be able to work flexibly and be able to cover all the specialties provided for at The Royal London Hospital.

Qualifications/ Clinical Skills
Essential

  • GMC Registration
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • CCT in anaesthesia or equivalent or, if in training within 6 months of CCT
  • FRCA or equivalent .ALS/APLS

Desirable

  • Experience of UK healthcare system
  • Experience in Anaesthesia for complex Orthopaedic Trauma patients

Special Knowledge/ Abilities and/or Experience
Essential

  • Extensive experience in a wide variety of anaesthesia, and the management of major trauma
  • Experience in the peri-operative care of patients including pain management
  • Audit experience

Desirable

  • Experience in anaesthesia specialties in the job plan
  • Clinical management training
  • Experience in Clinical Governance
  • Experience in setting up courses for nursing/ AHP staff

Personal Skills/ Qualities
Essential

  • Ability to communicate clearly and intelligently in written and spoken English
  • Ability to lead a multidisciplinary team, make decisions and exert appropriate authority
  • Ability to build strong and effective relationships with patients, relatives and colleagues

  • Directing and teaching medical, nursing and other professions allied to anaesthesia and Intensive Care

Teaching & Training
Essential

  • Involvement in teaching undergraduates, junior medical staff, nurses and allied health professionals
  • Evidence of training in teaching skills.

Desirable

  • ATLS, ALS, APLS or PALS instructor status
  • Involvement in undergraduate education
  • Involvement in postgraduate education
  • Experience of setting up an education module/ course
  • Formal qualification in medical education

Research
Essential

  • Understands research methodology
  • Actively encourages research with junior and other staff
  • Active participation in research

Desirable

  • Experience of research presentations to learned societies on topics related to anaesthesia
