General Specialist Practitioner Sonographer – Barts Health NHS Trust

About the role
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly autonomous and experienced Sonographer, who is practicing at the top of their licence and can evidence the four pillars of Advanced Clinical Practice, to join our diverse team as a General Specialist Practitioner Sonographer.

Key Responsibilities

• Based at the Royal London Hospital with cross‑site rotation to St Bartholomew’s, Mile End Hospital’s Community Diagnostic Centre and Early Diagnosis Centre.
• Deliver a 7‑day service with compressed hours and weekend working.
• Provide 80% Direct Clinical Contact (DCC) and 20% Supporting Professional Activities (SPA), including supervision, training, MDT meetings, quality improvement, audit/research and clinical leadership.
• Scan more complex referrals across elective, urgent and emergency pathways such as Fast Response, SDEC and AAU.
• Improve patient outcomes by reducing waiting times to meet national targets (DM01, Faster Diagnostic Service).
• Lead quality improvement and audit/research projects.
• Manage the pathway for patients referred for more complex ultrasound scans in Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Head & Neck, MSK and General specialties.

Qualifications and Experience

• Statutory registered with a UK regulatory body.
• Holder of a Consortium for the Accreditation of Sonographic Education (CASE) accredited postgraduate (Level 7) award in ultrasound.
• Demonstrated high degree of autonomy and clinical experience.
• Evidence of the four pillars of advanced practice.
• Core capabilities and specialty‑specific clinical competencies.

Contract Details

• Salary: £5,000 RRP per year subject to approval.
• Hours: 150 hours per month over four weekdays with some weekend working.
• Pattern: 7‑day working with compressed hours.
