  • Purpose of the Role

The Wind Turbine Inspection Engineer is responsible for carrying out statutory inspections of safety-critical equipment installed within wind turbines, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, industry standards and customer requirements.

The role also includes the inspection, installation, maintenance and repair of permanent access systems and fall protection equipment, together with the completion of detailed electronic inspection reports and associated documentation.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Operations Team to plan and deliver inspection programmes safely, efficiently and to a high professional standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out statutory inspections of safety-critical equipment within wind turbines throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.
  • Plan and organise inspection activities in conjunction with the Operations Team to ensure contractual commitments are met.
  • Inspect, test, maintain and, where required, repair permanent access and fall protection systems, including:
  • Cable and rail fall protection systems
  • Safety anchor devices
  • Ladder climbing systems
  • Internal cranes and hoists
  • Carry out inspections of emergency rescue equipment, first aid equipment, fire-fighting appliances and internal lifting equipment.
  • Accurately identify defects, non-conformances and corrective actions.
  • Produce electronic Reports of Thorough Examination and other inspection documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of health, safety and environmental compliance at all times.
  • Comply with all company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality procedures.
  • Represent Barton Safety Services professionally whilst working on customer sites.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Experience in mechanical and/or electrical inspection, installation, maintenance or fault diagnosis.
  • Comfortable working at height and in physically demanding environments.
  • Able to meet the medical requirements associated with working at height.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work away from home when required.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC/HND or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (desirable).

The following qualifications or experience would be advantageous but are not essential, as training may be provided where appropriate:

  • GWO Working at Height.
  • OEM Authorised Technician (AT) or Competent Technician (CT) certification.
  • Previous experience working within the wind energy sector or other industries involving work at height, lifting equipment or safety-critical inspection activities.
