POSITION: Front of House Desker

DEPARTMENT: Front of House Operations

RESPONSIBLE TO: Studio Manager

CONTRACT TYPE: Variable Hour – Minimum of 25 hours per week

Barry’s is the original strength and cardio interval fitness experience that provides an immersive, high‑intensity, one‑hour workout. Our program focuses on delivering exceptional customer service in a fast‑paced environment and building a community around health and wellbeing.

Overview

The role of the desker is client facing, with the purpose of ensuring we achieve our mission of providing our clients with the best part of their day. We are looking for someone with a passion for excellent service, high energy and a desire to build a community. If you have experience in providing superior customer service, we want to hear from you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Embodies the Barrys values to bring the vision to life on a daily basis.
  • Provide a best-in-class welcome to the studio, including a personalised greeting and farewell to clients.
  • Deliver exceptional service during class sign‑in, work quickly and efficiently while upholding service standards.
  • Respond to client queries in person, by phone and email; provide solutions that meet business and client needs.
  • Proficiently operate the POS system: process payments, update records and manage bookings including private classes.
  • Maintain high energy during class changeovers and keep a positive atmosphere.
  • Induct first timers thoroughly with a personalised introduction to Barrys and studio facilities.
  • Operate the fuel bar and prepare pre/post‑class shakes as required.
  • Build client relations by remembering personal preferences (e.g., favourite shake).
  • Use the booking system to recognise client milestones (birthdays, achievements).
  • Identify opportunities for client outreach and community building during downtime.
  • Open and close the studio and complete required tasks.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the studio space, fuel bar, reception and changing areas.
  • Support class start/end times and assist with technical issues (sound, microphone).
  • Handle complex client inquiries and collaborate with studio management when needed.
  • Maintain product knowledge for studio retail operations, including the fuel bar.
  • Understand and help execute marketing initiatives and communicate studio offerings and events to clients.
  • Assist management with daily tasks and other projects as necessary.

Requirements

  • Ability to work non‑traditional hours, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Minimum 25 hours per week, on any 5 days from 7; schedule is variable with at least one weekend day.
  • Strong hospitality skills and knowledge of customer service principles.
  • Ability to build constructive, cooperative relationships with clients, peers and supervisors.
  • Effective communication in a time‑sensitive environment.
  • Excellent organization and time management.
  • Detail‑oriented with a focus on customer satisfaction and cleanliness.
  • Dependable, reliable, friendly, and professional in appearance and behavior.
  • Enthusiasm for the Barrys brand.
  • Physical ability to kneel, bend, reach, climb, stand for long durations and lift equipment up to 30+ pounds.
